First Response: (f2f 3 1/2-hr Blended) training course N14
The first aid training delivered at the Scouts – also known as First Response – is a 6 hour programme that provides the skills and knowledge to enable our volunteers to keep Scout members as safe as possible while they are in our care.
Please note! THIS IS NOT THE FULL COURSE. Applicants must first complete the First Response e-learning. This can be found in your My Learning. Please select Explore Learning and search for First Response e-learning.
If, two days before the course, you have not completed this – we will cancel your place.
This face-to-face training, reviews your e-learning and covers the remaining syllabus of the First Response Course, including the practical Life Support Module (10B).
By the end of the course, participants will be:
- Provided with simple first aid information which is relevant to their role
- Helped to build confidence and skills in coping with emergency and first aid situations
- Equipped with the knowledge needed to manage these emergencies
The First Response course focuses on three main areas:
- Life support: The principles of first aid and initial response (arriving and managing an incident), emergency life support, CPR (including technique for children and an explanation of what AED is and how to use it), management of an unconscious casualty (child and adult), and choking.
- Trauma and injury: Shock, bleeding, fractures (ambulance imminent and non-imminent) and sprains, head injuries, dental incidents, and burns.
- Major illnesses: Asthma, anaphylaxis, heart attack, stroke, seizures, diabetes, sepsis and meningitis.
The syllabus has recently been adapted and now focused on conditions where prompt recognition and/or life-saving treatment is required. In addition, some conditions have been included because they occur most frequently on incident/accident reports submitted to both the Scouts and Girlguiding.
Our trainers will add some additional content not listed on the syllabus and this will be made clear to participants and will not detract from the core syllabus and training plan.
Joining Information will be emailed to you at least 48 hours before the session. Please look out for it – it may be in your spam folder!
