Wild Wolf ESU’s summer adventure in Kandersteg

Date: 1st Sep 2019 Author: Steve Way

Earlier this summer, 62 members of Wild Wolf gathered on Bounds Green Road, waiting for the coach to take them to Kandersteg International Scout Camp. After a long journey we headed up to Lake Ochinensee, taking in the outstanding scenery. Eager to see more of Switzerland, we left site on Monday to visit the capital city, Bern. Here we explored the cobbled streets; buying souvenirs and lots of chocolate!

The next two days consisted of hiking, with stunning views of the Alpine valley Kandersteg is situated in. Two groups stayed up the mountain overnight, in one of the various mountain huts. August 1st marks Swiss National Day and the start of Baden Powell’s experimental camp so there was plenty to celebrate at KISC. The day was jam packed with activities, before concluding with a parade through the town and a beautiful fireworks display.

Although Friday brought rain, it didn’t put us off the exciting activities planned. We headed off to Interlarken to try a high ropes course and white water rafting down the River Lütschine. We spent the evening with international friends at KISC’s campfire, singing songs. Keen to enjoy the last moments of Switzerland, Saturday was spent riding the Rodelbahn and having a Scouts Own at Lake Ochinensee, before one last swim and stuffing ourselves full of pizza.
