Enfield’s Explorers tackle their DofE…

Date: 7th Nov 2023 Author: Steve Way

Over the weekend of the 4th and 5th November a number of Enfield District‘s young people undertook their Bronze DofE expedition weekend. Two teams took part,  one team from the Gough Park Explorer unit, the other from the 10th Edmonton Scout section.

The expedition entailed camping for 2 nights at Fairmead campsite, close to Gilwell Park on Lippetts Hill in Essex.

On the first day the Scouts were transported from Fairmead campsite by minibus to Rye House station where their hike commenced, heading south along the river Lea, down towards Chingford, then heading east back to Fairmead campsite.

On arrival at the campsite, it was time for dinner, a shower, sorting and cleaning kit then bed time.

On the second day, the Scouts departed Fairmead campsite, hiking in a northeasterly direction towards Bell common tunnel, then heading westerly towards their finishing location in the grounds of Waltham Abbey.

A successful weekend for all the Scouts!
