Safeguarding Awareness Training
The issues facing adult volunteers in keeping young people safe are changing all the time and it is essential that we all receive regular up-to-date training.
It is therefore a requirement for all adults in Scouting to have undertaken ‘approved safeguarding training’ at least every five years and this is monitored at the appointment review. Most adult leaders, managers and supporters will receive some Safeguarding training as part of Getting Started. In GLN we would encourage members to complete Safeguarding Awareness Training during their next full year in role.
The training obligation may be met through two routes:
- Participating in a Safeguarding Awareness Training session run by the County, meeting the objectives and delivered by an approved trainer.
- Participating in the online alternative.
Given the importance of the subject and the frequency of the training available, we would recommend the former whenever possible.
