On a warm and sunny April Saturday Explorer Scouts from across GLN and the country brought to life the traditional board game of Monopoly by taking part in a real live event and visiting all the famous Central London landmarks. Over 150 participants in 36 teams from as far away as Exmouth, Manchester and Wales took part in the competition which saw them visiting all the places on a traditional Monopoly board. The challenge was to visit and take photographs at as many locations as possible and answer questions linked to the location. As a result, the participants are now able to pass on their knowledge and entertain about such topics as the original name of the Twinings tea shop on the Strand or the name of the Animals Victoria Cross.
Teams started and finished from the Islington Scout Centre (aka GO); or from Frith Grange near Mill Hill for those teams making more of a weekend of the event. This is the 3rd year we have run the competition and with double the number of teams from last year was a little more challenging calculating the results and producing a video before the presentation at 9pm.
The winners of this years competition were team One Parrot from Saffron Walden Explorers who scored a total of 1683 out of a possible 1882 managing to visit nearly all the locations.
2nd place went to Sparten Explorers on 1352, and 3rd The Long-legged Mack Daddies from Discovery ESU with 1277.
We also had a leader competition (for leaders entering Explorer teams) with the winners Old Dragons from Dragon ESU in CCI, followed by their close rivals the NITS from the same unit.
