Development News

The Leader Questionnaires will be collated for the Conference in the next few days, so the final date to complete the questionnaire is tomorrow, January 31st. Don’t miss this chance to affect County Communications, Training Offerings, Skills Instruction and Events – fill out the survey here: http://www.gln-scouts.org.uk/survey/

The GLN County Programme Conference for GSLs, District and County teams is at the beginning of February.

In order to help them with planning, there is a short online Leaders Survey to gather information ahead of the discussions. The survey asks for your opinions and ideas on County Events, Communications, Training and Permits and Skills.

All Leaders and helpers should fill this out – it will only take 5 or 10 minutes – even if you have never been to a County event.

The Survey is at http://www.gln-scouts.org.uk/survey – thank you for helping make the County even Greater!

6,144 people are currently enjoying the everyday adventure Scouting provides in Greater London North – the highest number for 14 years!

Results of the termly census are available at: http://www.gln-scouts.org.uk/county-services/census/termly-census-september-2011

In addition to collect details of our current membership, we asked for views on a range of new initiatives to support local Scouting – which will be launched over the coming months.

Make sure your Group has responded by the deadline (16th October)

During the last year several new groups/Sections have been opened in parts of the County.   Russ Dyble, our Local Development Officer, has helped find leaders and set them up but cannot stay to support them for very long.   It is our intention that any new Group or Section would be allocated a County Support Leader to help them.

Some of these new units may need help with  Programme Planning, ceremonies, games, organisation of an evening etc.  Others may only need somebody with a warrant to be present until their CRB’s etc. are sorted.  Obviously some will need a lot of support  and some much less depending on their knowledge and expertise and also whether there is good support within the Group.

I need  experienced leaders  who would be interested in helping these new sections.

Each  new unit will be different but it will be you  who will  decide  how much time and support you can give. Whether the support comes with a physical presence or as a source of help and support on the phone will vary.  I suspect that with most it will start as a physical presence to give advice and confidence and gradually become more remote.

It is a very worthwhile job to be doing and could make the difference between a flourishing section or a failing section.  Russ and I will always be there to support you.

Please think carefully about this and how you can help.  You can contact me on accdevelopment@gln-scouts.org.uk or 020 8366 3757

If you know of anybody else who may not have received this please do tell them about this opportunity to help.

Thanks

Barbara
